Samseon Teuk Jjambbong

3.5

at Pungmi

-Bokjeong, Sujeong, Seongnam, Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea-

solo

Another post-pool meal, the 3rd in 5 just days (see most recently 17.034 Jeukseok Ddeokbokki), this time solo.

Fun getting back into the groove, though not so fun without a consistent partner.

Fancier/better than, and pricier at 16,000 vs 13,000 for, the standard samseon jjambbong at the Pungmi location in Wirye (see for comparison 17.008 Suje Mul Mandu).

The jjambbong was good.  As previously noted, the restaurant uses high quality ingredients, properly prepared (see previously 16.293 Yangjangpi) – far superior to the slop at the other joint down street (see for comparison 17.032 Buja Jjambbong).  Presumably, the “teuk (special)” refers to the whole abalone, intended for wow factor upon serving, but awkward to eat without anything to cut into it (didn’t bother asking for scissors).  Will try the standard version next time.
