Oeuf Mimosa au Tarama

3.5

at Madame Mimi

-Banpo, Seocho, Seoul, Republic of Korea-

with HSK

Madame Mimi is a French restaurant.  Offers a small selection of simple bistro fare: apértifs, entrées, plats.

Located 926 m from Dulwich.

Had an errand to run at Dulwich.

Afterwards, had dinner with HSK – who lives 50 m from Dulwich – in Seorae Maeul – i.e., the French Quarter.

On my prior visit to the neighborhood: “I was disappointed to discover that the French dining options are limited in the area, nothing but high-end restaurants with pricy prix fixe table d’hôte options, no casual bistros with à la carte menus” (see 14.147 Cebiche de Privera).  HSK offered several bistro choices – in the end, we went with Madame Mimi as the only place that accepted last-minute walk-ins – so either he’s better at scouting locations (probably) or the area has seen a resurgence in French restaurants (who knows?).

Walk-ins very welcome: from 18:15 to 20:00, we saw only 1 other party.

The food was good.  Nothing fancy, nothing cliché, nothing dumbed down – just French.

Plateau de Charcuterie (3.0): came with slices of baguette.
Escargots à la Vigneronne (2.0): meh.

Oeuf Mimosa au Tarama is a French dish.  Deviled egg (oeuf mimosa) with fish roe (tarama) mixed in with the yolk stuffing.

Oeuf Mimosa au Tarama (3.5): avec les pickles de légumes.

The Madame Mimi rendition was excellent.  The pollack roe added a delicate saltiness to the yolk, topped with a thin crouton for crunch and sliced scallion for a hit of alliaceous freshness.  The pickles on the side provided a nice tangy counterpoint, while the bed of baby sprouts in creamy dressing brought everything together.  Well worth the price of 13,000.

Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis (2024) (2.5): kinda flat.
Filet de Poisson du Jour, Ratatouille (3.0): the server called the fish “mero,” but it looked and tasted more like snapper.
Pierre Ferrand Cognac Grande Champagne – 1840 Formula (3.0): no idea about Cognac, but I enjoyed it.
Filet de Porc Sauce Moutarde, Petit Pois au Beurre et Bacon (2.5): meat was somewhat dry, but the sauce was nice.
