Sicilian Pesto Pasta (+ Sourdough)

Nearly 6 years ago, at E-Mart, heading from the parking lot to the store entrance, I found my father collapsed on the floor – in fact, the floor of the automated ramp: lying still yet moving – unconscious. Fortunately, he came to immediately. Afterwards, we went out for dinner at this restaurant (see generally 11.320 Pizza Diablo). The blackout had been caused by heart arrhythmia, which would eventually be treated through surgery (see generally 12.005 Mul Naeng Myeon).
Sicilian Pesto is an Italian sauce. Per Gemini: “Also known as Pesto alla Trapanese, Sicilian pesto is a vibrant, no-cook sauce originating from the port city of Trapani. Unlike the classic green basil pesto, it features fresh tomatoes, almonds, garlic, basil, Pecorino cheese, and extra-virgin olive oil. The ingredients are pounded or blended into a light, creamy, and nutty sauce.”
According to the restaurant’s menu, their version of Sicilian pesto includes sun-dried tomatoes + cherry tomatoes + almonds + pepperoncini.
As served, the sauce also included ground pork. Topped with shaved parmesan + argula.
Though nowhere near authentic to its name, the dish was good. Pretty much like a standard meat ragu with crumble from the almonds. So good that we ordered sourdough to finish off the leftover sauce.
Hands down, this place beats The Corner Kitchen in every respect: taste, quality, menu, cost (see for comparison 17.069 Prosciutto Cotto Pizza). A bit farther to walk up the hill, but worth the effort.
