This dish – various types of seafood (shrimp, octopus, mussels, etc.) and vegetables (bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, etc.) stir-fried in oyster sauce and topped with katsuobushi – has become a staple item in izakaya throughout Seoul.  The name of the dish is invariably written as a literal description in Korean, something along the lines of “Seafood & Bean Sprout Stir-Fry,” as opposed to an actual Japanese name, as most other dishes are, which makes me wonder whether it’s Japanese or Korean in origin.  It tastes Japanese.

One of my best friends from high school, DP, is visiting with his family.  We got together for a late dinner/drink, the first time seeing him in over 4 years.  After about 4 minutes of catching up, we settled into a string of casual conversations about sports and other trivial matters, with the nonchalance of two friends confident that they’ll be meeting again, sooner or later.
