Fivestar Family Restaurant is a Singaporean/Malaysian food court stall. Mostly curries and vegetables side dishes.
Rendang is an Indonesian dish. Consists of meat, typically beef, sometimes chicken or duck, slowly simmered for hours in coconut milk and aromatics and spices, resulting in a rich chunky stew, often served with steamed rice. Extremely popular, entirely mainstream in Singapore and Malaysia. Considered by many in the world to be the ultimate embodiment, certainly the most intense, of Southeast Asian-style curries.
The food at Fivestar Family Restaurant was surprisingly good. The rendang was respectable, the beef was fall-apart tender, indicating that it had been appropriately long-cooked. Both the lightly stir-fried sprouts and the spicy beans made for fine accompaniments, each providing a contrasting flavor and texture. Overall, with the steamed rice, quite a nice meal.
Within the food court, this may be the place to beat.
