Lamb Curry + Aloo Mutter + Naan

at Singhs Curry House

-Suva, Fiji-

Over the course of 16 days, through a combination of personal and professional travels, I will be in 12 localities across 7 countries, eating and documenting at least 1 meal in each of them.

Today is Day 10 /  Locality 9 / Country 6.

(For additional posts, see 16/12/7.)

My accommodations while in Suva: Quest Suva, a serviced residence hotel, located on 3 floors of the BSP Suva Central Building, just around the corner from the WHO office.
Not bad.
Always great to have kitchen facilities, just in case.

Mission to Fiji + Personal Deviation (Day 2 of 8)

In Suva.  Wednesday to Thursday, I’m here with a WHO team to facilitate a government workshop on strengthening laws to address noncommunicable diseases.  I arrived a couple days early due to the intermittent flight schedule.  On the weekend, I’ll stay a couple extra days on my own dime to go diving.

Across the street from the hotel, MHCC is a shopping center with a food court on the top floor – as if I don’t get enough mall time in Manila, goddamn it.
Alas, no stalls offering local cuisine, I settled on the next best thing: Indian; with Indo-Fijians representing about 37% of the population, second only to indigenous Melanesian Fijians at about 57%, Indian is the most common cuisine in commercial settings.

After 3 laps around the food court, I eventually settled on Signhs Curry House, one of many Indian joints.

The food was salty, almost unbearable.  So much for my first meal in Fiji, my first meal south of the equator.

At least I got a bottle of Fiji water.
