TEITY (Try Every Item at Tao Yuan*).  I’ve succeed in eating my way through the restaurant.  From start to finish, it’s proven to one of the best in the neighborhood, solid on all counts: taste, quality, variety, service, vibe, proximity, maybe price.  Now that I’ve tried all the dishes, I know exactly what to get every time, depending on the circumstances, whether it’s for a quick bite on my own, a casual night out with friends/family/colleagues, or a formal occasion hosting bosses/VIPs.  That kind of certainty, in the unpredictable culinary landscape of Manila, will be invaluable.

Sliced Pork Liver (0.0) — infinitely worse than imaginable — I’m not entirely averse to liver, but it’s gross beyond the pale when boiled in this form.

146,257.45 PHP = about 3,361.50 USD — not all of it from me; I also shelled out a few thousand pesos in tips, like to the guy who tied my shoelaces for me.

Ultimately, I believe that TEITY was worth the effort.   I didn’t appreciate every item, as the ratings indicate, a lot of zeros from the hotpot and ones from the dim sum. Towards the end, admittedly, as the frequency would suggest, I was getting rather tired of the place.  However, as best exemplified by the white pepper lobster (see generally 6.044 Slipper Lobster in White Pepper Sauce), which will remain one of my all-time favorite dishes until the day that I die — though it isn’t on the menu, I wouldn’t have developed the dish but for this project — I discovered quite a few gems along the way, enough to maintain an average rating above 2.0, even the hotpot.  While 2.0 may not seem like much quantitatively, I enjoyed every meal nevertheless, great times with great friends and colleagues.  — in particular, I must acknowledge the unwavering support of EK, who joined me on 15 visits, without whom I’d still be at it.

    so, the day has come! i wish i could have been there. a total of 3,361.50 USD with 100 guests…this is crazy! ( i appreciate your obsessive-compulsive personality making/charting the tables)

    so proud of myself for my contributions of 41.67% in TEITY. good times. good fun.

    looking forward to reading a post about your own white pepper sauce some day.
