with the Family

Da Rae Jung is a Korean restaurant.  Specializes in nothing, offers everything – the menu includes 151 items – including Chinese-Korean dishes.  Open 24 hrs.  Just opened in BGC.

We were initially impressed by the spread of banchan, which were nicely plated, balanced, and well made.

But the food that that followed turned out to be horribly wrong.

For my dish, the seafood bits were okay and made for a decent broth, but the noodles were inedibly crumbly, like cheap instant noodles that had been overcooked.  One bite, and I was done with it.  I find it impossible to believe that other customers would get any further.

This is how I left it.

The meat came frozen.  As the inconsistency of the colors and marbling configurations would suggest, the cuts were clearly sourced from different places, different animals, different levels of quality, resulting in vastly different tastes and textures, but not in a good way.   The worst serving of Korean BBQ that I have ever experienced.

Immediately, I recognized the bottom piece as the boxed Striploin Steak sold at S&R (see 8.183  Striploin Steak).

I don’t know what possessed me to order meat on the first visit without knowing anything about the restaurant.

A closer inspection of the menu reveals that all of the photos in the menu are from different sources, as suggested by the different backgrounds, different garnishes, different stylings, different resolutions/lightings, likely each plucked at random from the internet.

What a disaster.  BAN.
