After an overwhelmingly successful book fair at SFS this week – having sold KRW 36 million at the same venue just 5 months prior (see previously 13.139 Kimchi Fried Rice), we shattered our all-time book fair record by achieving KRW 52 million, the first large-scale event under my direct supervision – I needed a break.  Camping seemed like just the thing to unwind.  Prior iterations of Camping “Rehab” meant relearning my camping skills (see previously 13.087 (Geonbbang) Hardtack), but this one was meant to revitalize my body and soul.  It didn’t, instead leaving me entirely exhausted.

Camping Rehab, Part IV (Day 1)

  • Day 1 (13.289 Creamy Dak Ragalbi)
  • Day 2 (13.290 (Geonbbang) Hardtack)
Gorgeous skies, sunny with a touch of cloud cover.

The camping part was nice.  Nippy late autumn weather, ideal for a camp fire.  Louis Le Pieux had so much fun playing with a neighboring trio of border collies that his paws ended up bloody – not a good thing per se, just saying that he had a blast.  IZ went on a 48-hour screen bender.   I enjoyed that entire middle part.

But the beginning and end killed me.  Even the minimized load of (winter) gear for two persons was too much for me to handle on my own (a lazy 5th grader is no help).

Unless I’m going with other campers, I don’t know if I ever want to do it again.

Though warm in the afternoon sunlight, late October nights demand a winter set-up, including kerosene stove + electric mats + sub-zero sleeping bags.

The food, random tidbits/leftovers from the fridge, wasn’t exactly great but worked well in a camping situation and provided a welcome opportunity to unload.

Finally, I got around to reading this book.

“Creamy Dak Galbi with Noodles” was an improvised concoction comprising dak galbi with ramyeon noodles, plus a touch of bottled cream sauce.
