Jackson Blvd (aka Jackson Pizza in Korean) is an Italian-American restaurant chain. Specializes in delivery pizza. In shockingly stark contrast to other chains (see for example 13.281 Not), the menu is entirely absent of gimmicky Koreanized pies – no crusts stuffed with sweet potato mash, no weird processed meat, no potato, no corn, no mayo – just good old-fashioned Italian-American standards, like cheese, pepperoni, combination, Hawaiian (ugh – and yet, I’d happily take pineapples over fake bulgogi anyday). Currently 30 stores, mostly in Seoul, happily 1 in Wirye.
The Greekology Pizza was awesome. The crust was perfectly cooked, moist and chewy and tasty, demanding to be eaten to the very last bite – perhaps the best that I’ve experienced in a delivery pizza in Korea. The sauce and cheese were fine. The toppings, including eggplant + zucchini + bell peppers + red onion + tomatoes + mozzarella + grana padano, were fresh and flavorful, almost like eating a salad (not really) – perhaps the best that I’ve experienced in a delivery pizza in Korea. I’m assuming the eggplant and zucchini (à la moussake?) are meant to evoke Greekness – a few crumbles of feta and fresh parsley would’ve been nice. Although falling a bit shy of a true 4.0 rating, I’ll give the pie top marks this time in recognition of its audacity to do the right thing.
I can’t wait to try Jackson Blvd’s other offerings.
