DJ’s girlfriend is a senior (he’s a junior) (see generally 15.044 Gold Set), so she took him to the prom.
Last week, we had gone to his uncle’s place to get a hand-me-down suit (see generally 15.131 Futomaki) then spent the next few days scrambling to get it tailored and accessorized. I purchased the tie on Amazon for $12.95, plus $16.00 on expedited shipping; the tie was “light sage green,” to match the girlfriend’s “emerald” dress – apparently, satin neck ties in light sage green (or any solid color) aren’t really a thing in Korea.

As far as I could find, the first photo of DJ on GMTD doesn’t show up until well over a month into Cycle 2, February 2011, when he was about 4.5 years old (see 2.046 Baeksuk). Seems rather late, because Cycle 1 featured only one photo per post, then Cycle 2 began to include supporting photos; while occasional photos of people have tended in general to be included in the context of the food, I’m surprised that I wouldn’t have shown DJ, who was such a cute kid, as soon as possible. Also, the post doesn’t even mention that it’s the first photo of DJ. (Maybe, when the posts from the original site were transferred to this current site, some of the supporting photos were lost.) Anyway, in that first photo, he’s decked out in a Burberry trench coat – always looked good in nice clothing.

The strange thing about the prom, as I’m told, is that no music will be played, no dancing. Granted, I’ve always thought that dancing at a prom looks silly because everyone’s dressed up in poorly fitting outfits, but still. In fact, SIS doesn’t have any dances at all during the school year, at least not since we’ve been here (back when I was a student, a dance was the biggest school-wide social activity every month – e.g., Welcome Dance, Halloween Dance, Sadie Hawkins Dance, Homecoming, Valentine’s Dance, Spring Dance, Prom). At 380,000 won per ticket (760,000 won for the couple), I can’t imagine what all that money paying for, if not partly for the DJ (disc jockey) and sound equipment. I’m going to get to the bottom of this.

As with meat (see most recently 15.127 Roast Ribeye Au Jus), the financial benefit of buying in bulk is nice, but it’s more about the control, allowing me to manipulate the amounts and configurations exactly how I want them for the given application.

Getting close to perfecting this dish (see most recently 15.079 Chicken Noodle Soup).
To deepen the broth’s flavor, I boiled two whole chicken for 30 minutes until just cooked through, separated the meat, then placed the bones and skin and everything else back into the pot for an additional 30 minutes of boil, uncovered, to allow the stock to reduce and concentrate.
IZ has declared it his new favorite dish.
