2025 Lunar New Year at the Cabin (Day 3 of 4)

Spending the first half of the week-long Lunar New Year holiday at the cabin.

The main event was tonight’s family dinner.

I got into a fight with my mother later in the evening, after dinner, after the extended family had gone home.  I’m ashamed to say that I don’t really remember much, because I was so drunk, but I’m told that I was playing with Louis on the floor of the living room, when she told me to go to bed, to which I flipped out and started dropping F-bombs while ranting about maternal neglect.  It was a release of pent up grievances over the past few years, a lot of little things that seemed to show a lack of interest/care, like forgetting my birthday (see for example 15.359 Royal Black).  Or like that time I thought my mother had bought lobsters for me on my birthday, only to be told, no, they’re for my father (see generally 10.357 Special Tuna Sashimi).  Even tonight, my aunt had brought ssiraegi upon my request, but my mother refused to serve it, claiming the table was already too cluttered; when I asked what I should eat, she said, “Just eat jeon” – at the side table where W and I were seated along with JS and his wife, we snuck a plate in.  A lot of the resentment seems to revolve around food.  Anyway, my behavior was entirely unacceptable, yelling and cursing at my mother, regardless of the reasons.
