MNM, Upgraded?

2.5

at Buwon Myeonok

-Hoehyeon (Namdaemun Market), Jung, Seoul, Republic of Korea-

solo

Another trip to the optometrist (see most recently 16.231 Kal Guksu).

Although I’d generally prefer to eat elsewhere while waiting, the scorching hot weather made MNM sound good.

Prices have gone up significantly since my first visit in 2017.  Mul naeng myeon: 6,500 –> 12,000.  Bindaeddeok: 4,000 –> 6,000 (see for comparison 8.161 Mul Naeng Myeon).

First, I was surprised to see a queue to the bottom of the stairwell.  On prior visits, I’d never seen more than a handful of customers.

2020: used to come with a third of an egg.
2026: now a half!

Second, I was happy to find that the food seemed marginally better.  The flavor of the MNM broth – previously described as “Light.  Sweetish.  No discernible beef flavor.  Refreshing.  Not unpleasant.” – tasted a bit deeper, a bit beefier, perhaps made with more and/or better quality meat, which would explain the prince increase.  Bumping the restaurant up a slot in the MNM rankings.

2020: greasy in the middle.
2026: dry and crispy all the way around.
