Seafood Platter for Four

2.5

at Smith & Wollensky

-Hannam, Yongsan, Seoul, Republic of Korea-

with the Family, Mom + Dad

Smith & Wollensky is an American restaurant.  Specializes in steak.  Founded 1977 in New York.

Entrance via parking garage.
Private elevator.
Main dining hall.
Our corner table.

The occasion was my father’s 81st birthday.

The Seafood Platter for Four is the 2nd priciest item on the menu; someday, I might be tempted to come back for the 1st priciest item: Dry-Aged Swinging Wagyu Tomahawk Ribeye Steak (420,000).
My mother, looking at the menu prices and suddenly making a fuss about trying to save money – a person who’d demanded that I buy her lunch at Jeongsikdang for her own birthday in February – insisted we order the dinner course; but adding up the individual items from the main menu, 390,000 doesn’t seem like much of a discount.

As soon as we were seated (18:00), I ordered a glass of draft beer.  10 minutes later, it hadn’t arrived.  I had to ask 4 times, each with increasing levels of visible annoyance, before finally it was served (18:30), long after the seafood platter had already been served (18:20).  Dripping with sarcasm, I said to the server, “So if order another beer now, it’ll get here in half an hour?”

Included lobsters + abalones + scallops + sea snails + slices of salmon.
Dipping sauces.
Beef Tartare with Bone Marrow (2.5)
Dry-Aged Bone-In Ribeye Steak (3.0): I can do better (see for comparison 15.039 Ribeye Steak in Pan Gravy).
Cucumber Salad (3.5) + Whipped Potatoes (3.0) + Grilled Asparagus (3.0)

The food was good across the board.  Everything, especially the seafood platter, was way overpriced.

Complimentary cheesecake for the birthday boy.

Happy Birthday!
