Classic Chili Dog

2.0

at Pink’s

Pink’s was featured once on GMTD back in 2017, when we were living in Manila (see generally 8.093 The Hollywood Legend).   The Hollywood Legend (chili cheese dog) only rated a 1.5: partly because it fell apart, partly because the “sausage itself wasn’t that great” – although the menu indicates a 100% beef hotdog, the sausage interior looks suspiciously pink (pun unavoidable), albeit in the blurry photo.  According to that post, the chain at that time had 15 locations in the US + 1 in the Philippines; the website currently lists 6 US locations + 3 in the Philippines + 2 in Korea.

Located in B1.

Dropped by The Hyundai Seoul to scout a potential location for a pop-up event.  For the brand’s flagship store, the dining options are disappointingly slim, but I was happily surprised to discover Pink’s.

The chili dog costs 365 pesos in Manila, about 8,600 won at the current exchange rate, compared to 280 pesos in 2017, about 7,500 won at the time – it costs $8.50 in America.

Not bad, certainly better than that prior experience.  The sausage had great snap and rich beef flavor – however, the center was cold, as if not fully boiled, hence the 2.0 rating.  The chili was excellent, smooth in texture, ideal for chili dogs, compared to the chunky chili in Manila, which might explain why it had fallen apart – this one held together.  Looking forward to a repeat visit, especially to try their Polish Hot Dogs.
