Penne is a type of Italian pasta.  Shaped like a traditional quill pen, hence the name.

Ragù is a type of Italian sauce, typically for pasta. The northern style comprises ground meat simmered in stock, sometimes with tomatoes.  The southern style is made by braising large cuts of meat in tomato sauce; the meats are often served separately.

My version here would be closer to the northern style.
