Whole Baked Cauliflower with Tomato & Olive Sauce
-Oksu, Seongdong, Seoul, Republic of Korea-
with W and DJ
Given the ingredients, I’m not sure what I was expecting. Following that mayonnaise a couple months back (see 3.090 Turkey Breast Sandwich on White with Homemade Mayonnaise), this was the second Jamie Oliver recipe that I’ve attempted, both from the same book Cook With Jamie. Perhaps, based on his self-proclaimed reputation as the “Naked Chef” who can transform the simple into the special, I was hoping that the cauliflower, tomatoes, and olives, along with the anchovies and red wine vinegar, would synergize into something unexpected. But no. It just tasted like mushy cauliflower in tart tomato sauce. In the introduction to the recipe, Jamie notes that he invented the dish but that “it feels quite Mediterranean in style to me.” Whatever.
