Started out as a pasta dish.
But ran out of butane gas as I was boiling water for the pasta.
Waiting in the elevator well to go down, the electricity shut down.
Back in the apartment, where the electricity was still running, I looked down from the 34th floor to see a dozen fire engines assembled in front of the building with lights blazing.
No fire alarms had sounded — come to think of it, I don’t even know if the building is equipped with functioning fire alarms — so I decided to stay put.
It suddenly occurred to me that the 34th floor is a very dangerous place to be in case of a disaster, especially in Manila.
As for dinner, what would’ve been toppings for pasta became a dish in itself.
well, for many reasons, i won’t be there for long. stay tuned.
“Ran out of butane gas”? Does your stove work on a tank of gas, rather than a gas line? Yikes that would be a pain in the ass to get a new tank of gas every now and then. No delivery?
not a tank of gas, i use the portable “blue star” stoves with the small canisters.
