Mission to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic + Personal Deviation : Day 2 (see previously 6.145 Phak Boong Fai Daeng…).

In Vientiane for a tobacco-related mission, follow-up to the mission that had brought me here last March (see generally 6.067 Salmon Zosui).  Arrived last night, a day early to do some prep work while hanging out in the city today.  The mission will be conducted over a single day tomorrow.  Heading back to Manila that night.

By sheer coincidence, May 31 is World No Tobacco Day; the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, hosted a celebration to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use, inviting local high school students to participate in a full day of events, culminating in a series of live performances by local celebrities.

I was honored to be invited and seated in the front row.

The late afternoon snack at the WNTD celebration was the best thing that I ate all day.  Stir-fried pork & basil, topped with fried egg and served with rice, essentially the same thing as kra phrao, but with less sauce and more aromatics.  Way better than what I later ate for dinner and certainly more meaningful.
