First visit to my favorite local restaurant this year/cycle (see most recently 6.356 Steamed Egg White…).
Sliced Chicken, White Asparagus & Mushroom Soup (2.0) : light broth, with traces of woodsiness from the mushrooms, but the chicken was kinda rubbery.Braised Bean Curd, Crab Roe (2.5) : briny and bitter, not in a bad way, unlike anything that I’ve ever tasted.Pan-Fried Spareribs, Champagne Sauce (3.0) : the sauce had something of an artificial citrusy flavor, as if made from orange soda (not champagne)……but the spareribs were perfectly cooked to juicy tenderness.
The mushroom and scallop dish was intriguing. Delicately deep-fried, seasoned with a hint of five-spice. An excellent starter, particularly with beer.
