Winter Family Vacation to Malaysia, Day 1.

In Kuala Lumpur.  Here for Sunway Lagoon – a theme park and resort.  Monday thru Thursday.  Back to Manila on Friday.

Sunway is a vast commercial complex that includes Sunway Lagoon, Sunway Pyramid Mall, Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway Condominiums and other residential properties, Sunway University, Sunway Le Cordon Bleu (!), plus numerous hotels, including the flagship Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, and many restaurants in between.  Located in Bandwar Sunway (Sunway City), a township in the greater metropolitan area of Kuala Lumpur, about 20 km from downtown.

Our second trip to Malaysia (see most recently 8.097 Stir-Fried Bean Curd…), my fourth.

Arrived this afternoon, too late for the amusement park.  Spent the day eating and shopping.

E.G.G. = Eight Gourmets Gala is a food court of sorts.  Presumably, it started with 8 stations, though currently it only features 5.  Essentially a full service restaurant, single menu, orders taken and food brought by servers to the table.  Mostly local dishes.  Part of the Sunway complex.

Food was okay.  Even at its worst, Malaysian food is usually pretty good.

I’ve decided henceforth never to eat shell-on shrimp at a restaurant.  I don’t mind at all shelling shrimp when I’m in the kitchen, prepping, cooking, getting messy.  But when I’m sitting down to eat, I’d rather relax and keep my hands clean.  This is an extension of my no crab principle (see generally 6.221 King Crab).  (Yes, I am perfectly aware that shrimp are infinitely better when cooked in their shells.)
