As I see it, life is phased thru 6 indictions:

01-15 : Survival – growing into a functional human being

16-30 : Development –  learning and working to become a productive citizen

31-45 : Progeniture – creating and raising a family (+ helping the kids to survive)

46*-60 : Payback – taking care of the parents (+ helping the kids to develop)

61-75 : Harvest – reaping the rewards of a hard-earned retirement (+ helping the kids to progenate)

76-90 : Wind Up – putting affairs in final order (+ hoping the kids pay you back)

FIL was suddenly hospitalized yesterday with a liver abscess, so W flew back to Korea to today for support.

I turned 46 last month.  Hate to say this, but I dread that these kind of events across our extended family will be ever more commonplace in the coming 15 years.
