As a subset category to the expansive debate about nature v nurture, I’m wondering how much influence a parent’s cooking ability has on a child’s dietary beliefs, preferences, consumption patterns. I’d like to believe that the affinity my kids have for vegetables has been largely influenced by my cooking. If the household cooking had been left to their mother, who doesn’t like vegetables herself and thus never cooks them, I’m pretty sure that they wouldn’t been so keen to eat things like chives, cabbage, broccoli, or cauliflower. Not meaning to boast, just pondering whether kids who are pegged as “picky eaters” would be inclined to a more expansive palate if they were presented with better options.
