Mission to Thailand, Day 1.

In Bangkok.  Here to participate in a consultation – “Innovations for Strengthening National Capacities in Health Law & Ethics” – as a pre-event at the 51st Conference of the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium on Public Health.  I had attended a similar event in Malaysia last year (see 9.249 Ostrich in Oyster Sauce).

AFTERNOON SNACK

First look at the Thai Airways Royal Orchid Lounge in Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1.

Thoroughly mediocre.

As always, I am grateful for and respectful of the opportunity to travel, especially via business class (see BEST IN FLIGHT), including lounge access (see in BEST IN LOUNGE).  Any comments here, even the negative ones, are simply relative to other business class experiences, just for fun, not complaints per se.

GROCERIES

After checking in to the hotel sometime around 6pm, I took a nap and woke up sometime around 12am.

I went across the street to a supermarket for water and other essentials.

I was impressed by the quality and variety of items in the store.

MIDNIGHT SNACK

I was also pleased to discover an on-site restaurant, which looked promising judging by the filled seats, even at 1am.

While Bangkok has no shortage of excellent eateries at any time of day, air-conditioned options become limited late at night.

The omelette cost THB 89 (USD 3).

They have their own beer glasses!!

The food was convenient, quick, cheap, tasty, and local.   Perfect for the first meal in town.
