After 6 fulfilling, fruitful, frenetic, fun years as a technical officer for the World Health Organization, I have tendered my resignation – more on that later.  We are scheduled to go back to Korea on 3 June, just 40 days from today.

36 days ago, I posted on the stockpile of groceries that I’d purchased to ensure that the family would have sufficient supplies in case food distribution channels were interrupted due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Manila (see 11.076 Broccoli with Chogochujang).  At the time, we had 24 kg of rice and noodles 12 kg of noodles, estimated to last us about 44 days.

Since then, the grocery stores have remained operational and relatively well-stocked, allowing me to replenish the pantry on a regular basis.  Currently, we have 11.6 kg of rice and 11.7 kg of noodles, estimated to last about 27 days.  I can stretch it to last longer.  I will reassess on D-20.  Until then, I will purchase only vegetables, eggs, meats, milk, whisky.

This morning, the Philippine government announced that the Enhanced Community Quarantine, now on Day 38, will be extended through 15 May.

Our biggest concern, of course, is that the situation remains relatively stable here in Manila, for everyone’s sake.  We won’t know until wide-scale testing goes into effect.

The next thing is whether we’ll be able to get out of here when the time comes.  Currently, 1 flight per day between Manila and Incheon, compared to 8 flights per day before the outbreak.

The final issue is how we’re going to move our stuff.  We’ve arranged for an international shipping company to come on 27 May, but that will only happen if the ECQ is lifted and shippers are permitted to operate.
