Exactly 1 year ago, we left the Philippines and returned to Korea for good.  Starting the 14-day quarantine at the cabin, our first dinner was grilled hanwoo 1+ deungsim (see 11.148 Grilled Hanwoo 1+ Deungsim).

For dinner tonight, to mark the 1-year anniversary, we ate the exact same thing.

This is the gorgeous stove that I had purchased for GK’s care package, but ended up not sending it upon learning that the post office doesn’t allow for personal shipment of flame-producing devices – note the short edge on the left, allowing a grill pan to hang over the stove with sufficient clearance underneath to place a cup for fat drippings (if the grill pan so equipped with a drain).
Good idea: cracked black pepper + truffle salt.  Bad idea: chives – leftover pieces scorch, which I should’ve anticipated (see also 11.273 Chicory Jumulleok).
Mom’s kimchi is awesome, even the remaining stuffing in the bottom of the container.

Meat, good.

We agreed that 1+ hanwoo is better then 1++ hanwoo, which is a bit too fatty for us.

By the power vested in me, I hereby declare that June 1 henceforth shall be Grilled 1+ Hanwoo Deungsim Day in our family.
