I’ve never used an exact recipe to make mapo doufu, but the sauce generally comprises equal parts oyster sauce + douban jiang (about 4 tablespoons each for 4 servings), plus some sugar + vinegar + white pepper.

My favorite brands: Lee Kum Kee Premium Oyster Sauce and Ha Ha Douban Jiang.
