In light of ever-diminishing returns at KFC – both here (see most recently 12.297 Kentucky Barbecue Leg) and abroad (see most recently 11.105 Original Recipe Fried Chicken) – I’m wondering whether the quality of the product is on the decline or I’ve reached the point in my culinary journey where it no longer appeals to me.

I forgot that I had banned KFC upon my last visit (KFC deserves a second shot).  I reimpose the ban here again (subject to appeal).

KFC Chik Orange Golden Ale: according to the back label, “chik” is meant evoke the sound of opening a can.

When I was in college, I wrote a short story for a creative writing class.  The protagonist (antagonist?) buys a can of soda from a convenience store.  Outside, he gets into an altercation with a guy in the parking lot and ends up bashing in the guy’s head with the can, killing him.  He sits down next to the body, blood and brains and bits of skull all over him.  Thirstier than ever, he opens the can, which makes a “shlick” sound then bursts open with gushing soda.  He is annoyed as the wasted soda drips from his hands.   My professor made only one comment, praising the onomatopoeic “shlick.”
