Having recently cashed out my pension from WHO, which was quite generous even though I’d only worked there as full-time staff for a bit over 5 years (makes me wonder how much lifetimers get), I rewarded myself by purchasing a new watch – 5 years at WHO deserves a stainless steel watch.
Before making the purchase (at the Panerai boutique in Hyundai Department Store COEX), we had dinner at Dim Dimsum – the first visit for W and DJ. They were impressed with the food.
The soy chicken was okay. Nice skin, juicy meat, but generally kinda bland. The noodles were somewhat greasy, not much flavor. I’m glad to have tried the dish, if only to get it out of the way – from now on, roast duck all the way.
At present, I count 7 active hobbies, listed here in no particular order: FOOD (includes writing GMTD, exploring restaurants, learning about cuisines and dishes, actual cooking), BOOZE (at peak, this was a real thing: tasting-studying-collecting wines, then malt whiskies; now, it’s just about drinking cheap vodka), MUSIC (mostly collecting vinyl records of music from my past; don’t really listen to new stuff), DIVING (not a regular thing, now that I’m based in Seoul, but I’d go daily if I could), CAMPING (rarely these days, but I have the gear, always ready to go), LEGO (even if not building-buying much recently, my room is completely surrounded by my collection, including pieces that I’ve owned since elementary school), and HOROLOGY (not so much the science, just wearing-buying-studying watches). While the other hobbies have been discussed to varying lengths on the blog, watches haven’t been given much attention (but see 12.248 A Solemn Meal of Crackers and Dried Fruit, 13.080 Chicken ‘N Cheese Muffin).
Panerai is my favorite brand at the moment – I now own 2 (the other is the PAM0979).
