Try Every Rice Dish at Shanghai (TERDS)
Writing this post in the future, I know that this was our final meal at Shanghai, which has been our go-to Korean-Chinese joint for nearly 6 years.
Including today, the restaurant has been featured in 45 posts: 19 at the restaurant + 26 at home, though I’d surmise that 20 or so or maybe more meals (e.g., weekend lunches) went undocumented. The restaurant with the second most posts in Wirye during that same time period is Cheonnyeon Galbi with 15 (see most recently 17.010 Signature (Lunch)) – actually 16, because future me knows that we will eat there on the evening before the move out of Wirye in a couple weeks. In the entirety of Korea, the restaurant with the second most posts is Jinmi Pyeongyang Naengmyeon (see most recently 17.068 Mul Naeng Myeon). The only restaurant in the world with more posts is Tao Yuan in Manila with 51 (see most recently 10.278 White Pepper Slipper Lobster), some of which included double visits on the same day. So, Shanghai is likely the restaurant that I’ve eaten at the most in GMTD history.
Interestingly, while previously living in Oksu for 4 years (Cycles 1-4), a total of only 11 posts featured Korean-Chinese food from 5 neighborhood restaurants, the most being Toayen with 5 (see most recently 4.300 Orange Tangsu Chicken)
The food at Shanghai was never great, but usually satisfying. I won’t miss it.

Alas, I will not see TERDS to completion. Of 23 dishes, I did 20, failing to try jjambbongbap, gul jjambbongbap, and bokjjam myeon – all variations of the same shit.
