For the past few weeks, we’ve had a high schooler from SFS “interning” with us to help develop content for our social media channels.
Turns out, as we would discover a few days into her stint, she’s the daughter of a schoolmate from SIS: DS, Class of 1992; although we weren’t friends (he was 1 year below me), we remember each other.
Today was her last day, so we went out for lunch, including the dad.

Funny thing about the wings. At our recent office party (see generally 17.179 Beef + Shrimp Quesadillas), we’d ordered 10 platters = 100 pieces (total staff of 30, roughly 3 per person). At first bite, I really liked it, tasting like an authentic Buffalo wing made with Frank’s hot sauce (see for example 13.206 Buffalo Wings); the other 2 Americans in the office agreed. However, all the Koreans didn’t, claiming that the wings were too sour, too salty, too strong. Which, come to think of it, probably explains why so-called “buffal0” wings in Korea aren’t made with Frank’s, but rather a random sweetish glaze to appease local palates. In the end, the 3 of us (the Americans) took home 30 wings each. Later, when I told the story to the owner, he said that he’d suggested to my staff to get the sweeter Mumbo Wings, but they had insisted on the Buffalo, assuming they would be like other Koreanized “buffalo” wings.
