Spaghetti alle Vongole Macchiate con Zaffrono

Whereas “macchiate = stained/spotted,” referring to a white sauce with bits of tomato (not a full on red sauce – i.e., in rosso), I like the pop of acidity.

For plating, I removed the shells from the smaller manila clams and kept the larger orient clams intact – a bit less visually impressive (see for comparison 16.172 Spaghetti alle Vongole), but way easier to eat.
