Sukiyaki was cooked table-side, but they cooked everything together at the same time and served in bowls. Traditionally, the components are cooked and served piece by piece, slowly, as to allow for every ingredient to be enjoyed as its own thing. Even the egg, usually served raw as a dip (see for example 8.232 Sukiyaki), is cooked in the remaining broth and ladled on top. Well, as the saying goes: it all ends up in the same place anyway.
W and the Boyz are off to Korea tomorrow for the summer.
This was the farewell dinner at what remains our go-to Japanese joint, though our collective enthusiasm has diminished, so we tried something new.
