Sometime in the early 1980s, we got our first microwave oven. It seemed like magic, or science fiction. A plate of cold food goes in, a button is pressed, and within seconds, zapped by invisible lasers, the food comes out hot, the plate still cold. The food tastes kinda odd, but still.
The air fryer is even better, because it actually cooks the food. For example, at the highest setting, 200 C is enough to induce Maillard reaction in meats. The edges come out crispy, caramelized, delicious.
