Dropped by IKEA to buy furniture for the cabin.

Not exactly point-of-sale advertising, but close enough.

Before getting out of the car, upon seeing the ad for the pork ribs, a new dish served at IKEA Korea restaurants, I couldn’t resist staying for dinner.

By now, I’m fully confident about the quality of IKEA products – I won’t even consider buying furniture anywhere else – but some of the food items, both in the restaurant and in the store, have proven to be less than spectacular (see for example 12.021 Fish Fingers with Pasta and Salmon Pudding in Cheese Cream Sauce).

So, I was very pleased to find that the Pork Ribs were quite nice.  The meat was fall-of-the-bone tender, and juicy.  The American-style BBQ sauce was well-balanced, not too sweet, not too sour.  The fries were crispy outside and fluffy inside.  The kicker was the kimchi mayo, which sounded kinda silly at first, but turned out to be creamy with a pleasant tang, good for both the meat and the potatoes.  I’m assuming, unless GK convinces me otherwise, that the plate wouldn’t be considered traditionally Swedish.  In any case, it was a good meal.

  1. No, I agree it wouldn’t be considered traditionally Swedish. Although pork ribs in themselves obviously have been cooked here for a long time. I think the most traditional way is to first cook them in water, then grill them in the oven (together with a marinade). Popular at the Christmas table. Is that how American style pork ribs are made?
