The restaurant’s eponymous jjajang myeon was one of the best rendition’s of the dish that I have ever experienced. The mian were thin and nicely chewy, coated in sauce rather than drowned in gravy, mixed with a ground pork and chopped green beans, topped with an egg yolk and shredded scallion. Somewhere in between standard Korean-Chinese style and authentic Chinese style, a perfect blend of the two. It was punchy and aggressive, yet elegant.
I would come back for this dish alone.

This year’s celebration of the most important day on the Give Me This Day calendar – my birthday – was rather subdued. I’m kinda not talking to everyone in the Family – each for different, equally valid reasons – so I wasn’t in the mood to go out for dinner. W cooked a simple Korean spread, mostly of items that I like, even though the birthday soup had meat in it – if I were cynical, I would suspect mockery.
At least lunch was good.
Next year will be the 5-0, which will warrant something special – hoping the Family returns to my good graces by then.
