The biggest news to hit GMTD in recent memory, certainly since our return to Korea in 2020: Jumbo Seafood has opened up shop in Korea!

Originally from Singapore, Jumbo Seafood is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. It’s been featured twice on the blog, both to high acclaim (see most recently 10.155 Chilli King Crab; see also 8.098 Deep-Fried Mini Buns with Chilli Sauce).

Just in time for my birthday (tomorrow), we were fortunate to snag a last-minute reservation during the busy end-of-year restaurant season.

I like to think of lobster as my birthday thing, although it’s only been featured once on the day of (see generally 8.357 Lobster with Mushrooms and Noodles in Truffle Sauce).

From the first bite, I knew that Jumbo would become my favorite non-Korean restaurant in Korea. My dish of choice, Lobster Braised with Superior Broth, was exquisite: sweet and tender meat, draped in an elegantly subtle if slightly bland sauce – though frankly, I would’ve liked a bit more flavor, e.g., Cantonese-style with ginger and scallions (see for example 10.229 Lobster Stir-Fried Ginger & Spring Onion). Everything else on the table was also great, including 3 crabs and other dishes, though I won’t show them in this post in anticipation of future visits.

We will be back in February, on the occasion of W’s birthday.
