Winter Vacation in the USA, Day 4.

We’re spending our holiday in the States – first time for the boys – including Los Angeles and Orange County, Las Vegas, and Grand Canyon – the farthest (distance), longest (duration), and most complicated (itinerary) trip that we’ve ever taken.

DISNEYLAND

Very little, however, on traditional Disney, more on Star Wars and Pixar.

Disneyland was one of the main attractions for choosing Southern California as our holiday destination.

It was great, even though we only got to experience a few attractions throughout the day due to the long lines.  By mid-afternoon, we were all exhausted.

DINNER

For dinner, we went to visit my aunt and uncle, who happen to operate a sushi restaurant in Anaheim, just down the road from our hotel.

They’ve been running Japanese joints of various sorts in Southern California since the mid-90s.  In 1998, they established the first sushi boat restaurant in San Diego County – initially denied a license due to strict health codes that prohibited open display of food, so they got a food supply company to fabricate transparent plastic domes that would cover the plates of sushi as they floated on the boats.

At the time, initially as a college student at Berkeley then later a law student at USC, I would get my Japanese fix whenever I dropped by, at least once a month during the semester, more often during the breaks.  One summer, I even got to manage the restaurant for a couple weeks while they went on summer vacation.

On the way there tonight, I had hyped the meal to the boys as “all the awesome sushi we can eat – free!”  Unfortunately, the business was recently sold, now awaiting clearance of escrow, so inventory has been kept down to a bare minimum, just enough to take basic orders until the new owners take over next week.

It was still good.
