Special Sushi Set
3.5
at Sushi Mi
-Changgok, Sujeong, Seongnam, Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea-
with DJ and IZ
DJ’s 13th birthday today – suddenly, he is a teenager (though still acts like a toddler).
Without hesitation, he requested to eat sushi for dinner.
Sushi Mi is a Japanese restaurant. Specializes in sashimi and sushi.
A quick internet search had revealed several small sushi bars in the neighborhood, so we drove around until we found one that looked clean and inviting but not too crowded (a disturbing trend that I’ve been noticing these days, perhaps a carryover from my prior life as a public health professional, is that people here are masked but don’t seem at all concerned with social distancing, especially in restaurants and coffee shops, which are often packed). We settled on Sushi Mi.

In light of the special occasion, I ordered the top-tier Special Set for DJ. 25,000 won. 12 pieces – some cuts were so large that they could be counted as 2 pieces (maybe 4 for the engawa); big is not necessarily a good thing for nigirizushi, where the fish to rice ratio is critical to optimize texture and flavor of each piece. Anyway, the fish was very fresh, clearly high quality. Nicely seasoned rice. A fine sushi experience – DJ seemed quite satisfied.

Happy Birthday, D!
