The 9th in an on-going series of burgers experimenting with pre-made non-beef patties – the first in nearly 11 months (holy fuck how time flies).
Previous burgers:
-
- 13.066 Chicken Burger (chili-ketchup)
- 13.070 Cheese Tonkatsu Burger (tonkatsu-mayo)
- 13.075 Fishkatsu Burger (with tartare sauce)
- 13.082 Double Neobiani Cheese Burger (gochujang-sour cream)
- 13.090 Fish Burger (tartare-mayo-mustard sauce)
- 13.101 Ddoekgalbi Cheeseburger (gochujang-mayo sauce)
- 13.128 Shrimp Stick Burgers (ranch dressing)
- 13.145 Cheese Ham-Burger (ketchup + mayo + mustard + sriracha)

This time, I tried a vegetarian Hamburg Steak, with cheese + tomato + onion, and a dressing of ketchup + mayo + mustard + sriracha.
Ugh. IZ took one bite and looked at me, like “WTF?” He couldn’t put it into words, but something didn’t seem right to him. Indeed, the texture of the patty was way off: crumbly and dry, reminding me of the vegetarian mandu that was featured a few weeks back (see 14.080 Dubu Kimchi Hansik Gyoja). The flavor was also weird, no resemblance to Hamburg Steak or any kind of meat product, though mostly masked by the toppings and dressing. Overall, it was about as good/bad as Burger King’s vegetarian burger (see 12.050 Plant Whopper). Nobody finished more than half.
