Scaloppine alla Bolognese (?)

2.5

at La Cantina

-Euljiro 1-ga, Jung, Seoul, Republic of Korea-

with W and IZ, Mom + Dad

Following our visit just 3 days ago (see generally 17.120 Bistecca alla Diana), we’re back to celebrate Parents’ Day with my mother and father.

Happy to confirm my first impression that the food is “vaguely reminiscent of a crappy Italian restaurant in the States – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.”

Scaloppine alla Bolognese is an Italian dish.  Traditionally made with veal, sliced/pounded into thin fillets (“scallopine”), dredged in flour, sautéed in butter, topped with prosciutto and parmesan cheese, served with a white wine sauce.

La Cantina’s is described on the menu: “tenderloin of beef with parmesan cheese and tomato sauce ‘BOLOGNESE’ style.”  The meat came coated in bread crumbs, looking more like Cotoletta alla Milanese, described on their menu: “tenderloin crumbs and pan fried,” making me wonder if the kitchen got the wrong order.  Anyway, the dish was fine, tasting pretty much like Italian-American chicken parmesan, only with beef.

5-6 Ravioli con Ricotta (3.0): better with tomato sauce, plus grated Parm.
8-5 Fette di Solgolia all’Affogare (2.5): looks like something from the 80s, but not too bad.

Long story short, the meal did not end well.  Just as we were ordering coffee (so close to a clean getaway), Mom made a comment – that I’m fiscally so much more responsible at the office than I was at the beginning – admittedly in jest, and as part of different issue altogether, but it made me explode in anger.  Not my finest moment (see previously 16.023 Lunar New Year Spread).  She has sworn never to have dinner with me again, forever.

Home Renovation: Day 68

On our way home, we dropped by the apartment to check on the progress of renovations.

KITCHEN / DINING ROOM / LIVING ROOM

MY BEDROOM

The most important part of the renovation, as far as I’m concerned.
Bathroom hardware installed.

Right on schedule, everything should be complete by the middle of next week!
