Each branch in the chain is named something different and offers a different menu – notice how the featured dishes vary dramatically – and yet manages to maintain a similar vibe throughout.
Long overdue for a visit to the dermatologist (friend/classmate of my sister-in-law) to get some icky bits removed from my face.
In the same building as the clinic, I was pleasantly surprised to find a branch of Crystal Jade and dropped in for dinner after the treatment.

Yangchun Mian is a Chinese dish, specifically Shanghainese. Traditionally comprising just noodles in a simple stock, “fancier” modern versions include a bit of vegetable (e.g., bokchoy) and/0r garnish (e.g., scallion). Widely available across Shanghai at both street food carts and snack shops.

On its own, the broth, derived from pork bones, was pleasantly thicker in texture, richer in flavor than anticipated. But still bland. Anticipating this, I’d ordered Pork Dumpling with Spicy Chili Sauce (i.e., suanla chaoshou) and used the seasoned chili oil to amp up the broth. It worked.

Made reservations for lunch this Sunday – FIL’s birthday.
