Haemul Jjambbong Tang
3.0
at Minmoc
-Hannam, Yongsan, Seoul, Republic of Korea-
with the Family
For our final family meal before going back to Berkeley, DJ chose Minmoc, where we’d celebrated his birthday last month (see generally 17.191 Oysters on the Half Shell – in July!).

Having tried my hand at jjambbong twice (see most recently 17.215 Jjambbong – From Scratch, Take 2), the dish seems fairly easy to accomplish at a threshold level, though making it taste like the real deal still eludes me. This probably true even for restaurants, unless they specialize in Korean-Chinese cuisine.
Following tonight’s competent yet uninspiring experience, I’ll stop ordering it from places that aren’t strictly Korean-Chinese, which don’t do it right and overcharge – sometimes as much as triple (see for example 15.041 Haemul Jjambbong; 16.310 Haemul Jjambbong with Udon Noodles)
