DINNER

For the first time in nearly 7 years (see most recently 5.160 Tandoori Chicken), I pitched a tent and slept in it.  Wasn’t sure whether this specific tent, which probably hasn’t seen the light of day in maybe 10 years, would be in usable condition.  Also wasn’t sure if various newly purchased winter gear (e.g., furnace) would be sufficient.  So, just in case, I camped out on the front lawn the cabin rather than risk it at a commercial site.

I was joined by cousin PJS and his family, at least for the campfire and dinner.  They slept at my uncle’s cabin next door.

Under varying circumstances – W wasn’t feeling well, DJ had a VC, IZ preferred to play games on his phone – everyone in my family stayed in the cabin, declining to join the campfire and dinner.  IZ later slept in the tent with me.

One of my contributions to dinner was curry lamb (see generally 11.364 Grilled Lamb Chops in Butter Curry Sauce).  Being rather rusty at campside cooking, however, I failed to account for the cool weather, about 5 degrees at dinnertime, which left the dish very cold after just a few minutes.  (Better to serve foods that can be maintained warm, like stews.)  Anyway, my guests seemed impressed when the dish was initially served.

IZ and I survived, though barely.  We were warm enough when completely immersed in our sleeping bags, but the air in the tent, about 0 degrees through the night, was too frigid to allow for comfortable breathing.
